Zuzana D

Zuzana graduated from the Dance Conservatory of Prague and chose the Prague State Opera Ballet as her first engagement, where she soon became a soloist. During her five years there she danced many beautiful roles, including Odette/Odile in Swan Lake and her dream role of Giselle in the ballet of the same name. In 2011 she was shortlisted for the Thalia Award. After the dissolution of the ballet company of the State Opera, she became a demi-soloist of the National Theatre Ballet. When a ballet dancer friend took her to her first Bikram yoga class one day, she had no idea how fatal it was for her. It was love at first sweat.

My favourite position is the triangle position. It's a position full of detail that I feel can never be done quite right. I love detailed body work and that's why I enjoy this pose. Plus, I can always tell what kind of shape I'm in by looking at it. It's really challenging and requires the whole body to be involved. And of course, I also like it because it gets the class over halfway through. My least favourite position is the crescent position. The body is still stiff, unyielding and resisting at the beginning of the lesson. That's why I find the first long set of the pose especially endless. On the other hand, it's a lot of time to coax the body to cooperate and set a determination in my head, which I then go into the rest of the class with.
